Non-tariff measures (NTMs), are generally defined as policy measures other than ordinary customs tariffs that can potentially have and economic effect on international trade in goods, changing quantity traded, or prices or both have an impact on trade and can restrict trade if not managed and implemented correctly. There are a variety of NTMs as follow (UNCTA/DITC/TAB/2009/3)-

- Contingent trade-protective measures

- Trade-related investment measures
- Distribution restrictions
- Restrictions on post-sales services
- Subsidies (excluding export subsidies)
- Government procurement restrictions
- Intellectual property
- Rules of origin
