Procedures for Obtaining Food Import Health Certificate (IHC)
Step 1
Importer obtains, completes and submits application for Food Import Health Certificate along with necessary supporting documents to the Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Ministry of Health. The supporting documents must contain import recommendation (IR), Import Declaration, Bill of lading/ Invoicing/ Packing list, Health Certificate from importing country/Certificate of analysis.
Step 2
When goods arrive at the port, Myanmar Customs takes sample of goods and provides to the FDA for laboratory test. The food item with original packaging or if food item with big size packaging is uneasy to provide, a photo or branding of such food item is required to provide to the FDA. The sample amount will be 1500 g. Every type of food item will be required with a different sample size for laboratory test.
Step 3
FDA tests the provided sample food. If the test result is failed, the FDA informs importers for a rejection with reason and the process will be end here.
Step 4
For the sample that passed the testing, FDA will issue the Import Health Certificate (IHC). The importer collects the test result certificate from the FDA and the process will be end here.
Note: It will take a day at the Document and Sampling Receiving Unit. It may take 1 to 2 days for obtaining the approval from the Director General office. It will take minimum 1 to maximum 25 days for analyzing the sample products at the lab. The Overall process will take from minimum 14 to maximum 31 days.
