Obtaining Inspection for Importation of Plants and Plant Products with MACCS System
Step 1
When plants and plant products arrived at the port, importer shall inform to the Plant Protection Division under the Department of Agriculture along with Other Government Agency (OGA) test application information and original Phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin to comply with the inspection guidelines.
Step 2
The inspectors from the PPD-
1. check the import certificate against with Phytosanitary Certificate from the importing country,
2. conduct visual inspection of sample plants and plant products (0.005-0.01 Percent),
3. if necessary, the sample products will be sent to the laboratory for verification
Step 3
If the sample products are pest free, the inspectors will send “Agree” message to the Customs Department via the Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS). If alive pest is found in the sample products, the inspectors inform to the importer to fumigate or apply appropriate treatment. After fumigation or treatment, the inspectors check and test for the pest again. If alive pest is cleared in the sample products, the inspectors will send “Agree” message to the Customs Department via the MACCS. In the case of finding quarantine pest and unacceptable situation, PPD will destroy the imported plants and plant products and the importer needs to cover the cost of such treatment or action.
